Course Description
The Certified Overhead Crane & Rigging Specialist (COCRS) certification is a comprehensive professional training program designed for crane operators, riggers, safety managers, maintenance personnel, supervisors, inspectors, and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) professionals responsible for overhead crane and rigging operations. This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely inspect, operate, maintain, and manage overhead cranes, hoists, and rigging systems while ensuring compliance with OSHA and ANSI standards.
Overhead cranes and rigging systems are essential in manufacturing, construction, warehouses, ports, utilities, steel mills, fabrication facilities, and industrial operations. However, improper inspections, unsafe lifting practices, equipment failures, and inadequate operator training can result in serious injuries, property damage, and costly downtime. This certification focuses on hazard recognition, safe lifting operations, equipment inspections, and regulatory compliance to help organizations maintain safe and efficient material-handling operations.
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.179–1910.184 regulations, ANSI crane and rigging standards, overhead bridge cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, portal cranes, monorails, electric and pneumatic hoists, hand chain hoists, lever hoists, rigging hardware, slings, load charts, crane inspections, preventive maintenance, hazard identification, lifting procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), and accident prevention.
Through practical examples and real-world case studies, participants will learn how to conduct daily and periodic crane inspections, identify equipment deficiencies, evaluate rigging systems, interpret load charts, select proper lifting equipment, reduce lifting hazards, and develop OSHA-compliant crane safety programs.
