Certified Laser Safety Course for Healthcare Workers - Technician (CLSHW)
Course Description
The Certified Laser Safety Course for Healthcare Workers – Technician (CLSHW) is a specialized certification program designed for healthcare professionals, laser technicians, nurses, physicians, dentists, surgical staff, and safety professionals who work with medical laser systems. This comprehensive course provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely operate, maintain, and manage laser equipment while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and ANSI Z136 laser safety standards.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of laser physics, tissue interactions, laser classifications, wavelength characteristics, and the biological effects of laser exposure. The curriculum covers OSHA laser safety requirements under 29 CFR 1910 and 29 CFR 1926, ANSI Z136.1 Safe Use of Lasers, ANSI Z136.3 Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care, hazard identification, engineering and administrative controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), laser-controlled areas, emergency procedures, and the responsibilities of the Laser Safety Officer (LSO).
Through practical instruction and real-world applications, students will learn how to minimize laser hazards, protect healthcare workers and patients from laser-related injuries, implement comprehensive laser safety programs, and maintain compliance with healthcare safety regulations. Upon successful completion, participants will possess the knowledge required to safely support diagnostic, cosmetic, therapeutic, and surgical laser procedures in healthcare environments.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Understand laser physics, laser-tissue interactions, wavelength characteristics, and the biological effects of medical laser exposure.
Apply OSHA laser safety requirements and ANSI Z136.1 and ANSI Z136.3 standards to ensure safe laser operations in healthcare facilities.
