Course Description

The Certified HAZWOPER Training Specialist 24 Hour Course (CHTS – 24HR) is designed for employees, supervisors, hazardous materials personnel, emergency responders, environmental professionals, contractors, and safety specialists who work at hazardous waste sites with limited exposure potential. This OSHA-compliant training provides the knowledge and practical skills required to safely perform hazardous waste operations while meeting the training requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(e) for employees requiring 24-hour HAZWOPER certification.

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of hazardous waste operations, site characterization, toxicology, hazard recognition, exposure assessment, and regulatory compliance. The course covers hazardous substances regulated under OSHA, including DOT hazardous materials, CERCLA hazardous substances, RCRA hazardous wastes, petroleum products, biological hazards, and other chemical hazards commonly encountered during cleanup operations and emergency response activities.

Students will learn how to identify workplace hazards, establish safe work zones, implement engineering and administrative controls, properly select and use personal protective equipment (PPE), and apply decontamination procedures to minimize exposure risks. The course also addresses medical surveillance requirements, site security, hazard communication, emergency response awareness, and safe work practices for handling corrosives, solvents, oxidizers, reactive chemicals, and other hazardous materials.

In addition, this Training Specialist program introduces participants to effective instructional techniques, training documentation, and OSHA compliance practices that support the delivery and administration of HAZWOPER training programs within their organizations. Upon successful completion, graduates will be prepared to support hazardous waste operations, improve workplace safety, maintain regulatory compliance, and assist in delivering effective HAZWOPER awareness and safety training.
