Course Description
The Certified HAZWOPER Training Specialist (Train the Trainer) (CHTS-T) course is designed for safety professionals, environmental health and safety (EHS) managers, supervisors, emergency response personnel, hazardous materials specialists, and experienced trainers responsible for developing and delivering OSHA-compliant HAZWOPER training programs. This advanced certification equips participants with the technical expertise and instructional skills required to educate workers involved in hazardous waste operations and emergency response activities.
Based on OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, this comprehensive Train-the-Trainer program provides an in-depth understanding of Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) regulations, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) identification, toxicology, chemistry, exposure assessment, and workplace hazard control. Participants will learn how to recognize chemical, biological, and physical hazards, evaluate workplace risks, implement engineering and administrative controls, and ensure compliance with OSHA standards during hazardous waste operations.
The course also emphasizes effective training development and instructional techniques. Students will learn adult learning principles, course planning, presentation skills, competency assessments, documentation requirements, and methods for delivering engaging HAZWOPER training to awareness-, operations-, and technician-level personnel. Practical exercises and real-world scenarios reinforce hazard recognition, emergency response procedures, incident command principles, personal protective equipment (PPE) selection, decontamination procedures, and regulatory compliance.
Upon successful completion, participants will be prepared to develop, deliver, evaluate, and manage comprehensive HAZWOPER training programs that improve worker competency, strengthen emergency preparedness, ensure OSHA compliance, and promote a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental protection across hazardous work environments.

Requirements / Prerequisites
Potential Trainers must have 40 hours of initial training.
